ADAM INNISS
Lost: Work Jacket
I left my graverobbing jacket
at the dry-cleaners
with a heart in its pocket.
Haven’t seen it for weeks but I hear
it bartends at a little gin joint
on Quinpool street
shoots lots of pool
and can be seen with
a new pair of pants
every day of the week.
It never was a good jacket.
Busted zipper.
Couldn’t keep the rain out.
I hear it started writing
poems now too
and they romanticize alcoholism
and poverty.
Should have left some brains in there.
Still,
it has the keys to my old apartment
and, I suspect, my little green notebook
(which has my mother’s phone number
in it by the way).
Oh! And of course that heart
